Everyone likes a challenge!

Why not try this one? David Suzuki is in the view of MANY scientists, a hack. While this may or may not be true I do believe in the necessity of what he does (I was forced into this as a young child and frankly I don’t think I’m all that worse off for it). Regardless, it is worth taking a look at, we all have our environmental vices, but, I think frankly it’s much more important to do SOMETHING rather than nothing. (this has been written in my plush corporate office at a multinational oil company = vice, taking the bus to and from work every day = good, walking as many places as possible = good, flying to vancouver = vice, recycling and reusing everything I see fit = good, publishing this note on my blog = good).

At the very least I’m trying to break even

Dear * You are a loser May 1, 2007

Really I’m not kidding, you lost out big time and in a big way.

I have never said anything mean or horrible to you in anyway since we last spoke on the phone, I have dealt with my pain as privately as possible and few people really understand exactly how much this situation has hurt me, I have lost someone who was very dear to me, and who I care about a great deal. I was worried about you, but I knew that the decision I had made was the best for both of us. Neither of us wanted to continue with things and it was obvious that you weren’t too enthralled with coming here to be with me.

I broke it off and my timing wasn’t great, for that I apologised, but your immature and youthful jabbing emails are unecessary and incredibly unfair. You have developed a culture of hate and despair around what was at one point a happy relationship. My idea of who you are have completely changed and you are no longer what you used to be in my eyes. I suppose though, that this transformation has made the finality and correctness of my decision that much more certain.

Fact of the matter is, I’m very much done with you and I’m very sorry for that as I thought you were someone who would be a constant and not become a horrible and threatening person.

For the first time in my life I’m with someone who satisfies me in possibly EVERY single way. They don’t make excuses for not trying and they have the guts and balls to go after what they want. These are attributes I respect in a man and for once in my life I feel as though I am with an equal and not someone who I have to contantly support emotionally. I’m with someone who recognizes that the next few years of my family life aren’t going to be easy, someone who may not understand but is willing to give me a break when I break down because of the problems we’re having, you couldn’t bother and would be angry with me when I called because I needed to talk.

YOU have made me out to be this ridiculously evil figure and I cannot believe that you could act that way. You’re ridiculous and such a fool.

 As Always,

 Lauren

PS – I know you’ll never read this, but my god it felt so good to write (sorry to everyone else, but I’m fed up with being painted in such a horrible light).

So yes I know I’ve been slacking on writing. I’ve been busy hanging out with Zachary and enjoying just doing very little other than maybe deciding what to eat, and frankly even that I didn’t do that very often!

  •  There are a couple reviews in the works, I ate Momos for the first time last night and they were VERY tasty.
  •  The Saturday before last I made curries and tried to stuff people with as much as humanly possible. There is still a chicken curry and a veggie curry lurking in the freezer (we managed to finish the beef off this week).
  • I made the oh so lovely Banana bread for work this week (I am now an indispensable employee)
  • It is sunny and I am trying desperately through the power of thought to create a body double so that my real self will run back home and laze about in the sun with the Vogue I just bought.
  • I have a new boss (who likes banana bread) and I’m very happy to have him as the executive I will be assisting.
  • Last satuday I made a meaty meatball sauce and we tucked into our pasta and meatballs Easter Dinner. Followed by Zachary’s sexy flambe’d berry sauce and ice cream
  • THE EASTER BUNNY CAME, twice ;)
  • Check out www.ureviewcalgary.com, I don’t ncessarily always agree with what is written but it’s great to have a second opinion!

So now we’re updated I’ll get those reviews done soon and then we can head out and check out some new restos and bars! I’m itching to see what the Flames bar is like, not because I have high expectations, I’m just curious because I love the venue and I have a feeling that with one of my friends convocating it would be an excellent excuse to head over there to celebrate.

HATE, SAD FACES, EMPTY TUMMIES…

So it looks like Mango Shiva has closed with the whole Penny Lane closing thing that finally happened (to think, I never managed to get to Cowboys). I was disappointed with this today, so disappointed in fact that I called the restaurant to see if they were still open (of course they aren’t). I had a lovely chat with someone, I have no idea who, but they said that sadly yes they were closed but will be moving to a new location. The new location is just across from that Flames bar, the spot used to be a Dairy Queen, (so I’m assuming that they’re going to have to do some renos) and will be opening sometime in the late summer.

I do wish them well, the food was fantastic and the service was great. I hope not too much changes between now and August.

Much foodie love to the people at Mango Shiva, my dining out plans won’t be the same without your lovely curries tempting me and RIP to the smoke shop too, Zac is already pouting and missing your humidor.

Time flies… March 12, 2007

When you’re having fun, working like a dog, exhausted and in need of some chill time?

 All of the above!

I have been crazy busy over the past little while. Not that it’s a bad thing, just a thing that means I’m pretty tired today and am pondering getting some writing done tonight. (plus the time change has made my body think I woke up at 4 am, never a good thing)

We’ve been to weddings, movies, restaurants and bars. I’ve been working and sleeping, trying to manage to find time to see people and to enjoy the AMAZING weather we’ve been having here. That being said I’m doing it all, but I desperately need some down time.

I’ll have it tonight, but in the mean time I’ve got lots to get off my desk and less time to do it in.

A review of our disappointing experience at Rajdoot will happen tonight, followed by my thoughts on the Frank Miller film ” The 300″ tomorrow. I’ll report back on the wedding I went to and the Blue Toque later on in the week, plus hopefully today or tomorrow I’ll finally get to cook something out of my Jamie Oliver’s Italy cook book (thanks to Zac, it’s been a lovely gift but I need to find a time to use it!!!!).

The Last King of Scotland, or OH MY GOD FOREST WHITAKER IS AMAZING!!!!! February 23, 2007

Last King of Scotland - Film Poster

Zac and I decided that we needed to go see this movie AGES ago, and finally we got around to it last weekend.

I’m sure you’ve all read the rave reviews and heard all the Oscar buzz (it’s very much deserved) but I’m going to add my little spin on it because frankly, Forest Whitaker performed the role of Idi Amin very convincingly and frankly I thought this was a great story.

It  reminds me of a coming of age story, in which a young man travels to go seek his fortune and leaves his native land behind him. To a certain extent this it true and one could easily compare this to one of those stories, however things tend to go wrong for our protagonist. This film quickly develops into so much more, documenting and providing my generation, with an idea of one of the more famous and unstable political figures from the past. From what I have read, Whitaker has portrayed a very real version of Amin.

The reality of the character forces its way into the story developing a dichotomy of two very distinct realities. The film/theatrical reality of the young scottish doctor and the ultimate reality of the character of Idi Amin. I received the impression that reality was not the life of the young Scottish doctor, but the actions of Amin and the problems in Uganda during his reign.

Does Whitaker deserve an Oscar for this performance? In my opinion, of course he does, that being said it will be interesting to see what happens on Oscar night!

Welcome to the redhead’s new home online.
